school committee 120517

UPDATED June 5: The Arlington School Committee met at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, in hybrid session -- via Zoom and in person at Arlington Public School District's office, 14 Mill Brook Drive, second floor.  It approved, contingent on documentation being provided to the superintendent, a high-school trip to Costa Rica in February 2025, along with the district's list of goals for the next school year.

The committee originally was scheduled to vote concerning a changeover in the APS physician, but Committee Chair Paul Schlichtman told YourArlington on Tuesday that this matter has been postponed. The current physician, David Pangburn, is resigning and will need to be replaced; while the APS superintendent hires most employees, state law requires that the committee make this particular appointment, Schlichtman noted. Also, the meeting was Wednesday rather than the usual Thursday because of a conflict with another event, he said.

Members of the public may address the committee at the beginning of the meeting. Those interested are required to sign up to speak ahead of time whether they wish to do so either remotely via Zoom or in-person. They should  email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. before 6 p.m. the date of the meeting so as to be put on the schedule. Three minutes are allotted per speaker, complaints against specfic employees are prohibited and the committee generally does not directly respond to what is said.

This notice based on information from the town website and YourArlington's files was published Tuesday, June 4, 2024. It was updated later that day with an explanation of the protocol for the physician staffing matter -- and later again that day to state that this proposed agenda item now is to be delayed to a future committee meeting. It was updated late Wednesday, June 5, with a brief recap of the meeting.
